Quarantine day 14

So we made it to Day 14 after a surreal Day 13.
First we can't leave, then we can, then we can't...
All at such a pace we can't keep up.

Then at 5pm they tell us we have to leave.
It's dark outside. Too late to rebook another car.
Hang on, I cancelled everything because we had to stay?
After some wrangling they graciously let us stay.

8am on Friday the 10th July -
bags packed (again), Uber booked,
we open our door.

I take one step outside (first in 2 weeks)...
only to be stopped.

'Those wrist tags,' says the man by our door.
'They're not for today.'

'No,' I reply.
'They were given to us on Wednesday,
we should have left on Thursday,
only we were told we had to wait until Friday.'

He looks at me like I'm a
ranting mad woman. I probably am.
He sighs, 'You can't leave.
'It's the wrong colour.
Better go back into your room
while I call downstairs.'

30 minutes later we're in the lift,
heading down to the real world.
It feels strange entering the foyer.
Did time stand still?
The army and police are still there.
We check out and that's it.

Our quarantine is over.
Been tested and don't have Covid.
We step outside. And we're on our way.
